Battleship Gray

Spent yesterday and today painting the interior.  Smoke gray (best thing I could find to match battleship gray) and clear coat.

Fiberglass Fun

I was excited today because I woke up at 9:30am.  I will have so much time to work on my car.... or so I thought.  Before I could start working on my car, my dad needed my help buying some lumber.  This was a lot of wood I needed to move.

After that was done, finally time to work on my car.  I've messed with fiberglass before in aviation maintenance school, but this was the first time using it on a car.  And I don't have too much experience working with bondo either.

Remember this rust hole?

Here's the repair process.

And here's the other rust hole and repair.

I was able to prime most of the interior; ran out of primer (and daylight) before I could finish.  I still need to prime the spare tire area, then should be complete.  The primer is still a little wet in the pictures.  I'll post more pictures when it's all nice and dry.

Bath Time

I got a lot accomplished today.  Started to sand the entire interior with an electric sander to prep for paint.  Then hand sanded the areas that the electric couldn't reach.  This took forever.

The removed the rear hatch, the rear bumper, cleaned off the left over sealant from the tail lights and weather stripping , and prepped the car for a power wash.

Gave the car a nice interior bath.

Nice and clean interior.  As soon as it dries, it's ready for priming.

While that's drying, time to mask off the windows and panels I don't want paint on.

And so the priming begins.  The color is Rustoleum Dark Gray primer 2089.  Looked like black when I was painting, but it started to turn gray as it dried.

So... one can is definitely not enough... lol.  But it's starting to look a little better after the primer dried.

Ok, I think it's time to invest in a respirator.  Rattle can fumes are quite toxic.  Those cheap dusk masks aren't doing anything for the fumes.  Hopefully on Friday, I should be able to get the rest of the interior painted and have those rust holes fixed with fiberglass and body filler.

Refund

Good day today.  Sold the body kit that came with the car today to a local buyer.  I feel like I just got a refund for the money I spent at the pick and pull lot.

Seat belts arrived

The s14 seat belts came in sooner than I expected.  They were waiting on my doorstep when I came back from work last night.  Thought I'd test fit them today since I had about an hour before work.  Everything seems pretty good.

It's only hand tightened now.  I'll actually mount them after I'm done with the interior.

Quick update

Here are the pictures of the auto seat belt removal.  I actually did take pictures, just forgot to upload them.

Also, I spoke to the seller on the s14 seat belts.  They were shipped on Thursday so I should be getting them sometime next week.

Test fit

Time to test fit the bumpers I got from the pick n pull.  First I removed the ED type U front bumper from the car.  I swapped the mounting hardware over cuz the one that I got from the 92 bumper were a bit rusted and had broken studs.  But it fits really nice.

But look what I forgot to get.... the front bumper extenders.  oh well... Not a problem.  Eventually, I'll probably get a Type X front bumper with lip or convert to Silvia front end.  We'll see.

For the rear bumper, I got the complete bumper including the bumper support.  The bumper support I had was a bit rusted on the bottom left side and was missing the retaining clip to mount the bumper cover.  I also only had half the harness for the license plate lights.

I had some extra time left today but not enough time to clean and sand the interior.  So I removed the automatic seat belt assembly.  I bought a set of s14 manual seat belts from a member on NICO.  He should be shipping them out soon.  Forgot to take pictures of this, but I'll post them up later.

Since I'm trying to make this build as least expensive as possible, I need to make some money back with my old parts.... lol.  I put up for sale my ED type U bumpers and rear bumper support on ZilviaNICO, and Craigslist.

Pick n Pull

Sorry no pictures today.  I was feeling really lazy so I had a late start.  Decided to check out the local pick n pull lot, they had 3 240s there: 2 90s and a 92.  I found almost everything I needed from the 92: front and rear bumpers, center console, map light, and both door sils.  They were all in pretty good shape.  I was trying to get the carpet out too, but the pick n pull lot was closing soon so I'll get it another time or find someone parting out their 240sx.

Strip n Scrape 2

Today was somewhat of a short day.  After lots of grinding and scrubbing with lacquer thinner, I got all the goo off the rear seat area and rear wheel well area.
